Special Tactics for Backgammon Rookies
Every game player must have a good strategy to be able to win, especially in backgammon. There are a lot of backgammon strategies known today, but there are only a few standard ones that a gambling player who's just starting to learn backgammon should know. Here they are:
Hitting
Most beginners in backgammon are too excited to hit checkers every chance they get. However, it is advisable for players to think a lot first before hitting any markers. You might think that you've done a great job because you just hit your opponent's marker, but little did you know that it was all a trap. Study first why your opponent has let you hit his marker before actually hitting it.
Distribution
The objective of backgammon is for players to take all their markers out as early as they can. A common beginner's mistake is moving their markers individually, without thought of the other markers. However, in a distribution strategy, the gambling player must plan for all of his markers in each move.
Each and every marker must be taken into consideration before acting, since this strategy is all about how well you spread your markers throughout the board. If performed well this strategy will eventually leave more choices for moves. In other words, if some of the markers are temporarily trapped, players have a lot of other moves that they can make to their advantage.
Blocking
This strategy is obviously for defensive purposes and this is appropriate for the more passive player. How does one block in backgammon? It is easy. All a player must do is build a wall of markers in front of the their opponent's home board.
That way, the opponent's markers can not pass through. When you have six markers as a wall, then that is called a prime. An important reminder in this strategy would be leaving other choices for moves in future rounds. To maintain this position, players must obviously have other markers to move or else they will lose the wall.
Exposure
This strategy requires players to risk some of their markers early on in the game. Players literally exposes some of their markers so they would become easy targets. At least that is what it would seem to your gambling opponent. When you have finally set the traps, that is the time you can launch your attack.
This strategy can be used both for offense and defense, but with much precaution. This is indeed very risky, so it should be done with much thought.
