The popularity of the backgammon game has then begun to spread all over many Northern European countries including the United Kingdom, as it became so popular to most of the clergy men in England during the eighteenth century. So popular was the game that a book about its rules was even written and published, therefore, setting up a guideline for the modern backgammon game that most people play in this day and age.
The main goal of the game of Backgammon is that both players must do their best to bear off all of their checkers or pieces before their opponent does in order for them to finally win the game. This has been the main goal of the game since the ancient times when the game was only just developing, and not much has changed since then. It is truly an ancient game that has most certainly stood the test of time. Every side of the board consists of twelve points where the checkers or pieces move. Some variations would enable a player knock off his opponent's checkers, while other variations do not have such a rule.
No matter what backgammon variation one decides to play, it is still most certainly a game that one can enjoy and has stood the test of time with regards to its popularity all over the world.
